Burlington Electric Department works closely with Efficiency Vermont and implements the same energy efficiency programs within Burlington. Ever since the voters of Burlington passed an Energy Efficiency Bond in 1990, BED has viewed efficiency as one way of meeting the energy needs of Burlington ratepayers. Because of these programs, Burlington is now using about the same amount of electricity as it did in 1989, the year before the bond was approved. |

Efficiency Vermont was created by the Vermont Legislature and the Vermont Public Service Board to help all Vermonters reduce energy costs, strengthen the economy, and protect Vermont’s environment. Efficiency Vermont is currently operated by the Vermont Energy Investment Corporation (VEIC), under contract to the Vermont Public Service Board. VEIC is a Vermont nonprofit organization founded in 1986. |
