One Change designs and delivers action-oriented community engagement programs that encourage people to make smart choices and adopt better behaviours.
The award-winning Project Porchlight started it all. But we haven’t stopped there. By engaging entire communities in positive, action-oriented campaigns we have created neighbourhood champions across North America willing to promote better, more sustainable choices for all.

One Change Energy Efficiency program “Project Porchlight”
The light at the front door is a beacon, a symbol of community, and a declaration of welcome to others. It’s also the place where the person-to-person communication at the heart of One Change occurs. Since 2005, over 14,000 volunteers in 1,400 North American communities have been engaged to carry the “Simple Actions Matter” message with a free energy efficient compact fluorescent light bulb (CFL) door-to-door in their own neighbourhoods. To date, more than 3.8 million CFLs have been delivered, with Project Porchlight campaigns having reached four provinces in Canada and three US states.
One Change Fuel Efficiency program
Building on the success of Project Porchlight, the One Change fuel efficiency program is a grassroots action campaign that empowers people to believe that simple actions matter. Our team will deliver free digital keychain tire gauges to communities across North America, offering a gateway to awareness and individual action on personal vehicle efficiency. Our fuel efficiency campaigns are designed to encourage motorists to adopt good tire maintenance and fuel efficiency behaviours that will put more money in their pockets and help protect the environment—simple actions matter!
One Change Water Conservation program “This Blue Dot”
It is estimated that 20% of all toilets leak. And one leaky toilet can waste up to 500 litres (132 gallons) of water in a single day! Statistics like this prompted us to create a program designed to raise awareness and encourage action on water waste. This Blue Dot is an award-winning water conservation program that encourages people to check for leaky toilets using a vegetable-based dye tablet or ‘blue dot’. We then go a step further and help people understand how easy it can be to fix a leak themselves!
Green the Season
In 2007, One Change was hired by the Ontario Power Authority to run a province-wide campaign promoting the use of seasonal LEDs (energy efficient Christmas lights). Working with two retail partners and more than 200 volunteers, we held light exchange events in 28 Ontario communities over one weekend in November 2007. Nearly four tonnes of wasteful incandescent light strings were collected and recycled in exchange for energy efficient LED light strings.
