As Proposal Writer reporting to the Director, Business Development and located at our headquarters in downtown Ottawa, you play a key role in all One Change responses to Requests for Proposal (RFPs) including – writing, researching and coordinating information through to delivery of professional, high quality, compelling proposals. You possess a strong work ethic, keen attention to detail, and the focus and ability to coordinate a wide variety of tasks simultaneously.
The preferred candidate has proven experience in proposal writing of RFP responses. Experience in the energy efficiency or conservation fields and/or with consulting firms may be considered an asset.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Understand proposal strategy and translate key requirements and concepts into winning written text
2. Participate actively in proposal strategy meetings and in the research of internal and external information
3. Plan, manage and execute written responses to RFPs and generate original business cases as required
4. Deliver professional, high-quality, compelling proposals that effectively educate and inspire action on the part of prospect or potential sponsors
5. Prepare documentation to describe new programs for which One Change is seeking sponsorship
6. Copy edit, format and create charts, graphics, power point presentations and other supportive materials to support the business development process
7. Participate in proposal debriefings and other venues for continuous quality assurance and improvement
8. Identify and recommend enhancements to content and processes on an on-going basis
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
1. University degree in communications, business administration, marketing, English, and/or journalism, plus 3 to 5 years experience in a business development, marketing, communications or proposal writing role
2. An equivalent combination of education and experience as described above
3. Successful completion of copy editing certification program or relevant courses is considered an asset
4. Previous experience in writing RFPs
5. High level of competence in all Microsoft Office programs, including Word and PowerPoint
6. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to express ideas and concepts
successfully through the appropriate use of text and graphics
7. Ability to demonstrate confidence in conveying project plans and timelines to all organizational levels
8. Possess exceptional attention to detail and process orientation
